Vassana Aradhana (Invitation) Ceremony

Vassana season is a period where Buddhist monks take time to offer advice and sermons to lay people such as you and me. Vassana season begins with the Esala poya, the full moon day in the month of July and ends in October with Katina pooja.

As lay people, we invite the resident Monks to engage us in religious activities during the Vassana season. Vassana pooja is the formal event where we cordially invite the Monks to commence the Vassana program for the year.

While Vassana season in India entails monsoon rains, we are very fortunate to have warm and long sunny days during this period. Vassana period also coincides with summer holidays where kids are off school and we relax. This is also an excellent time to get your family engaged in cultural and religious activities. SIBC is pleased to offer weekly seth pirith and bodhi pooja during this Vassana period. This is a great opportunity to conduct a pooja in memory of a loved one or to commemorate a special event such as a birth day or an anniversary.

Inviting resident monks to observe Vassana period

This year, Mr. and Mrs. Sathya and Dinithi Mallawarachchi have graciously accepted to invite the monks to conduct the Vassana pooja at the temple. They are also the patrons for the Katina program that is celebrated in October. Many of us have known Satya and Dinithi for years - let’s congratulate them and offer our best wishes and support.
