Blessings for the Sri Lankan New Year - 2021

Sinhala and Tamil New Year heralds the dawn of the new year for people of Sri Lanka and South Asia. This year, SIBC is celebrating Sinhala and Tamil New year on Sat, 24-Apr at the temple premises in Tukwila. Mayor of Tukwila, Hon. Allan Ekberg, will be the guest of honor.

Celebrations will be held in-person with social distancing, as well as online. For the benefit of in-person attendees, we will be conducting 2 blessings, starting at 11AM as well as 1PM.

Program

  • 10.30 AM – Arrival of in-person attendees
  • 11.00 AM – Commencement of in-person and online events with observance of five precepts
  • 11.00 AM – Seth pirith (New year blessings) and offering of Buddha Pooja
  • 12.00 PM – Community Lunch with New year specialties (see special arrangements below)
  • 1.00 PM – Seth pirith (New year blessings) offered for the second batch of in-person attendees (see below)
  • 2.00 PM – Close of events

Attending in-person

In accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines offered by King county, we will accommodate attendees in the Dhamma sala with social distancing in place. We will also provide additional accommodation to attendees in the covered overflow waiting area.

Special arrangements for Dana and Community Lunch

You can sign-up to bring Dana items for resident monks as well as for the community lunch. If you are volunteering for Dana items, you may consider joining in person or send it via someone attending the event in person.

Seth pirith (New year blessings) at 11AM and at 1PM

For the convenience of attendees, Resident monks would like to offer new year blessings at 11AM as well as at 1PM in the Dhamma sala. You are welcome to attend the blessings at either of these times at the Dhamma sala.

Dress code

We don’t have a dress code, but it’s an opportunity to wear traditional Sri Lankan clothes with your children. If not, you can wear what’s comfortable. Weather permitting, you will have the opportunity to meet your friends outdoors and exchange new year greetings. We kindly ask you to wear a mask during your stay at the temple premises and to observe social distancing guidelines.
