Sangha Nayaka Appointment Ceremony

Ven. Polwatte Pagnananda, the chief incumbent of SIBC Tukwila, has been appointed as the chief Sangha Nayaka for South America in recognition of his Dhamma service in Americas during the past 20 years. The title and award was presented to Venerable Pagnananda at a ceremony held in Sri Lanka with the participation of Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and many other distinguished guests.
Sangha Nayaka(leader of monks) is the high order of the monks and is granted by the agreement of the entire community of the monks. Such a post is commemorated festively in Sri Lanka, with the presence of civic and religious leaders. The event is marked with the presentation of a vijini patha, an especially crafted fan.
